Coronavirus disease 2019 (hereinafter referred to as COVID-19) has not abated since the World Health Organization (WHO)
declared it a global pandemic on March 11, 2020. The Korean government has managed to suppress patient outbreak and
minimize the damage from large-scale mass infection through the 3Ts (Testing, Tracing, and Treatment) strategy and social distancing adjustment. This study explained the reproduction number, an important index for assessing the effect of
government response to COVID-19 and monitoring the transmission pattern. This study also confirmed that the reproduction number is a useful indicator in estimating the transmission pattern of infectious diseases according to the
effect of government response. Although we are currently in the mitigation phase of COVID-19, new cases are still being
confirmed. Thus, continuous monitoring of various effects of the response to COVID-19 is needed by calculating the
reproduction number.
